My friend Richard asked me yesterday: “Do people in France walk fast as they do in London?” and this has reminded me of a new subject I should be talking about: fast walking.

People in here do walk fast. They have to, they’re going to work they don’t wanna miss the subway. But the funny thing is that as soon as you step in a subway station, you have to walk faster as well! You directly get in the mood! Whether you’re a tourist, or you’re just a person hanging out in there, you have to walk fast. I don’t know what the secret is but you have to; you can’t help it. I don’t have to go to work, and each time I take the subway it’s either to go shopping or to go out somewhere; but each time I do it as quickly as I can. The other day we were going to the restaurant, and when we got to the station Francois heard the subway get in so he started running; and when we missed it (because I wasn’t walking fast enough), he was disappointed that now we have to wait 5 minutes for the next one! 5 minutes! What’s the rush? Life is short you should savor each minute 😛

In Paris it’s even worse than in Roubaix because in there it’s not only in to take the subway that people walk fast; they do it all the time. As soon as you put your foot on the sidewalk you start running. But it’s Sunday! I’m here on holiday, I don’t have any appointment! Never mind, just walk faster. There must be something in their water that will make your feet move faster 😛 I remember the first time I came to Paris, my sister has been here for almost a year. She was touring me round the city, and I can tell you I didn’t see much of it; I was too busy trying to catch up with my sister! Each day when I got home I had to put my feet in hot water because they were hurting too much! I don’t know how they do it every day; it sure takes a lot of practice.

As I told you before, I was working this week end so I don’t have much to tell you. But we did get time to go out for dinner on Saturday, and since we had a car we decided to go to Lille. We found a very nice sea food restaurant thanks to Trip Advisor ( We got there, had a quick look at the menu and decided on this thing:

Sea food plate

According to the waitress, the usual sea food plate is for one person, so she advised us to take two. I think she scammed us, what do you think? I mean look at the size of this thing!? But don’t think we didn’t eat it all! We paid for it we were not gonna leave anything! I think we had our yearly intake of Omega-3 and vitamin A 😛

But the desert wasn’t as nice as the meal. At least mine wasn’t (it was a blackcurrant pie); Francois’ chocolate mousse wasn’t bad. Except that we got a piece of glass inside it, so we had to return it. They were nice enough to offer us the deserts because of this small incident, and the waiter kept apologizing for 10 minutes 😛

That about sums up the not-so exciting week end we had!

See you tomorrow!
