One of the things I really envy the French people for are their big green parks.

You have seen the view from my apartment window; well this is just a small inner-court garden; if we walk a few meters down our building we get to a very big park called “Park Barbieu”. And also in Paris, wherever you walk, on almost each block, you find a park.

So on Saturday afternoon, since we had nowhere in particular to go to, and nothing major to do, we decided to go have a walk in the park next to my friend’s house.

Whether you’re a teenager and want to hang out with your friends, or a couple wanting some romantic time alone, or a family with kids, or just need some time with yourself, this is the place to be; there is one condition of course: it shouldn’t be raining 🙂

We only spent 30 minutes or so, but it was really relaxing; just sitting there, looking at the ducks, the birds, the people, the kids, you feel that time has stopped just so that you can enjoy life around you. And then when you leave you feel that you’re 30 minutes younger because you just don’t know where the last 30 minutes went…they just went by quietly.

Let’s imagine ourselves back in Lebanon on a Saturday afternoon with nothing to do; where would the teenagers, the couple, the family or the lonelier go? To the mall! Of course! Is there anything else to do in this now-all-concrete country? Not at all. So just 30 minutes spent in one of the 10 or so huge malls built in the last decade, you will have the feeling that time has fast forwarded itself, and you’re now not just 30 minutes older, but 30 years maybe with all the noise and smoke around you. I think that few years ahead, new Lebanese generations won’t know what the color “green” is; it will be like those things we only see in books because they exist in other countries and not ours. And to think that in the old days they used to call it “Green Lebanon”; what a shame.

See you tomorrow!
