The sales have started in France on Wednesday; we didn’t have the time before today to go and experience the rush as the French live it, but we went this afternoon.

I assure you there were a lot of people! Lille was as crowded as it can be on a sunny Saturday of September. It was really cold outside, but people didn’t care; they were feeling really warm in the stores with the hundred other shoppers in there. In addition, 90% of these were carrying at least one bag in their hands, as a sign that they were all out of their cozy houses to benefit from the minimized prices. I’m sure the French economy will be happier at the end of this month than it was at the end of December.

Some stores even had to resort to extreme measures to make sure people will really buy something. One of them for example, offered free clothes to the first 100 customers that will come in their underwear on the first day of sale!!

I think something like this will also have to be done in Lebanon for the sales. In the past few years the stores have been cutting down the prices almost all the time during the year to encourage people to shop, but it’s not doing the deal anymore; the owners will have to find new ideas like their friends the French have. Of course coming naked to a store won’t work in Lebanon, but it has to be some crazy and attractive idea. What do you think? Do you have some thoughts you can pinch in?

See you tomorrow!
